What Do You Do When Everyone Else Seems Further Ahead?
Comparison is unusually good at ruining things that were fine until you looked sideways. Scripture treats it as corrosive rather than merely unhelpful — something that damages the person doing it, before it touches anyone else.

At the very end of John's gospel, Jesus has just restored Peter — the same Peter who denied him three times — and told him plainly how his life will end. It is a hard, personal moment.
Peter's immediate response is to look over at John and ask what about him. It is such a human reflex that it is almost funny: handed his own calling, his first instinct is to check what someone else got. The answer he receives does not explain John's future at all. He is simply told that it is not his concern, and to follow.
