I'm so angry right now. And I feel guilty for being angry. Am I wrong to feel this way?

Feeling angry can seem like proof something is wrong with you. Paul thought otherwise — he gave the Ephesians permission to feel it, and only then warned them where it turns. The heat itself was never the sin. It's what you let it become overnight.

The conversation

The child: “Daddy God, I'm so angry right now. And I feel guilty for being angry. Am I wrong to feel this way?”

God: “No. Being angry doesn't make you wrong. Paul wrote something surprising. He said 'Be ye angry.' He gave you permission.”

The child: “Wait — the Bible actually says to be angry?”

God: “It does. But it doesn't stop there. The next words are 'and sin not.' Anger isn't the sin. It's what you do with it that matters.”

God: “Think of anger like fire. Fire in a hearth warms the house. Fire left unchecked burns it down. The anger itself isn't the problem. Letting it rule you is.”

The child: “So how do I keep it in the hearth?”

God: “Paul gave a practical rule: 'Let not the sun go down upon your wrath.' Don't carry it into tomorrow. Deal with it while the day is still here.”

God: “That doesn't mean pretend it's gone. It means look at it honestly before the day ends. Name what hurt you. Bring it to Me. Decide what you'll do with it.”

The child: “And if I can't resolve it by sunset?”

God: “Then at least release the grip it has on you. You can still be hurt. You can still seek justice. But you don't have to let the wrath own your night.”

The child: “So anger that protects is okay. Anger that festers isn't.”

God: “Exactly. I gave you anger for a reason — it tells you something is wrong. But I never meant it to become your home. Visit anger. Don't move in.”

The child: “Then I'll be honest about what I feel. And I'll let the sun take it before it takes me.”

God: “That's wisdom. And I'll be right here every sunset you need Me.”

"Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:" Ephesians 4:26, KJV
