🌈 Stories of SAMACE

Everything is coming apart at once. I'm terrified.

When everything is coming apart it is hard to hear a promise as anything but a platitude. Paul made a precise one on that deck: the ship would be lost, the people would not. He did not pretend the cargo was safe. Some of it does break. You are not the cargo.

The conversation

The child: “Daddy God, everything is coming apart at once. I'm terrified.”

God: “Paul stood on a deck like this. Fourteen nights of storm, no stars.”

The child: “What did he say to them?”

God: “'Be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life.'”

God: “But he didn't promise the ship. He said the ship would be lost.”

The child: “So some of it does break?”

God: “Some does. The cargo went overboard. Every person got ashore.”

God: “I don't always save the ship. I have never once lost the people.”

The child: “How do I tell which is which?”

God: “You can't, from inside the storm. That's what trusting Me is for.”

The child: “I'm scared of losing everything.”

God: “You will not lose yourself. That is the promise I actually made.”

The child: “Then I'll hold on till morning.”

God: “I'm holding the both of us.”

"And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship." Acts 27:22, KJV
