🌈 Stories of SAMACE

Everyone around me is doing so much. Bearing so much fruit. And I look at myself and I've got nothing to show. What's wrong with me?

A bare-looking branch feels like proof you are failing at something everyone else has worked out. But no branch in any vineyard ever produced a grape by straining — the sap does that, and it comes from the vine. What looks like your fruit was never yours to manufacture.

The conversation

The child: “Daddy God, everyone around me is doing so much. Bearing so much fruit. And I look at myself and I've got nothing to show. What's wrong with me?”

God: “Let Me take you to a vineyard. Look at these branches. Some are heavy with grapes. Some are just starting to bud. And some look bare. But I want to show you what you're missing.”

The child: “What am I missing?”

God: “'I am the vine, ye are the branches.' You're looking at the branches and comparing fruit. But you're asking the wrong question. The question isn't 'why don't I have more fruit?' It's 'am I connected to the vine?'”

God: “No branch produces fruit by trying harder. Not one grape in this whole vineyard was made by a branch straining. Fruit comes from one place: connection. 'He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.'”

The child: “So the fruit isn't my job? It's just... what happens when I stay connected?”

God: “Exactly. The branch doesn't compete with other branches. It doesn't look sideways and think 'that branch has bigger grapes.' It just stays connected. The vine does the rest. The sap flows. The fruit comes.”

God: “Then He said the hardest part: 'for without me ye can do nothing.' Not less. Not a little. Nothing. A branch cut off from the vine doesn't produce smaller fruit. It produces no fruit. It withers.”

The child: “So when I compare myself to other people, I'm looking at branches instead of the vine.”

God: “And missing the whole point. Their fruit isn't theirs either. It's Mine flowing through them. Every good thing you see in anyone is vine-life flowing through a branch. Including you.”

The child: “So I don't need to be a different branch. I need to be a connected branch.”

God: “That's it. Abide in Me. Stop straining, rest in the connection. The fruit comes because life flows through you, not because you forced it.”

The child: “I'll stop comparing branches. I'll just stay connected to the vine.”

God: “And you'll bear much fruit. Not because of you. Because of Me in you.”

"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." John 15:5, KJV
