I'm done. I've got nothing left. I just want to stop.

Elijah had just defeated 450 prophets of Baal. And the very next day he ran into the desert and asked to die. Even the strongest people break. And when Elijah hit the ground, God didn't give him a sermon. He gave him a nap and a snack. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is sleep.

The conversation

The child: “Daddy God... I'm done. I've got nothing left. I just want to stop.”

God: “Lie down.”

The child: “You're not going to tell me to keep going?”

God: “No. I'm going to tell you to eat something and sleep.”

The child: “But I should be stronger than this. Yesterday I was on fire.”

God: “Elijah called down fire from heaven on Tuesday and wanted to die on Wednesday.”

The child: “Wait — Elijah? The greatest prophet? He wanted to quit?”

God: “He ran into the desert, collapsed under a tree, and said, 'Take my life.'”

The child: “What did You do?”

God: “I sent an angel with bread and water. Not a lecture. Bread.”

The child: “You didn't tell him to pray harder?”

God: “He didn't need more faith. He needed food and rest. I made your body, remember?”

The child: “I feel guilty for being this tired.”

God: “Exhaustion isn't sin. Ignoring it is.”

The child: “Will I feel like myself again?”

God: “Yes. But first — eat. Sleep. Let Me take the night shift.”

The child: “Thank You for not being disappointed in me.”

God: “Disappointed? I'm proud of you. Even prophets need naps.”

"And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee." 1 Kings 19:7, KJV
