Why would they pick me? I'm not even good at this.
Gideon never stopped being the least in his family — he just stopped letting that be the whole story. What made the difference wasn't his confidence, it was Whose presence he was standing in.
The conversation
The child: “Daddy God, why would they pick me? I'm not even good at this.”
God: “Tell me why you think that.”
The child: “Everyone else in the group is smarter, more confident. I'll mess it up.”
God: “That's a lot of reasons to talk yourself out of something you haven't even tried yet.”
God: “There was a man named Gideon. He called himself the least in his family, from the weakest clan.”
The child: “What happened to him?”
God: “I still chose him to lead an army. Not because he was the strongest — because I was going with him.”
The child: “So it's not really about being the best?”
God: “It's about showing up with what you have, and trusting Me with the rest.”
The child: “I'm still scared I'll mess it up.”
God: “You might make mistakes. That's different from failing.”
God: “Start with one idea. Just one. See where it goes.”
The child: “Okay... I have one idea.”
The child: “Here's what I was thinking...”
The child: “I did it. I actually did it.”
God: “I know. I was there the whole time.”
"And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man." Judges 6:16, KJV
