I think You told me to do something, but I'm not sure I heard right.
Gideon asked for a sign. Then another sign. Then another. And God didn't scold him for doubting. He answered every single fleece. If you need to ask again, ask. He'd rather have an honest doubter than a pretend believer.
The conversation
The child: “Daddy God... I think You told me to do something, but I'm not sure I heard right.”
God: “What did you hear?”
The child: “Something big. Something scary. But what if I made it up?”
God: “Gideon felt the same way. I told him to lead an army and he said, 'Are You sure You have the right person?'”
The child: “Did You get annoyed with him for asking?”
God: “He put out a fleece twice. I answered both times.”
The child: “Can I put out a fleece too? Just to be sure?”
God: “You can. I'm not offended by honest questions.”
The child: “What if I'm just scared and calling it 'uncertainty'?”
God: “Sometimes you are. Gideon was too. I still used him.”
The child: “He started with 32,000 soldiers and You cut it to 300. That's terrifying.”
God: “I did that on purpose. When the odds are impossible, no one gets to say 'we did it ourselves.'”
The child: “So the doubt isn't disqualifying?”
God: “I called Gideon 'mighty warrior' while he was hiding in a winepress. I name what you are, not what you feel.”
The child: “I don't feel mighty.”
God: “Neither did he. But I was right about him. And I'm right about you.”
The child: “Okay. I'll go. But I might need another fleece on the way.”
God: “I'll keep answering.”
"And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour." Judges 6:12, KJV
