What does real love actually look like?
Love gets measured by how it feels, which is why it keeps disappointing. The definition given here has no feeling in it at all — only what someone was willing to put down. And it was demonstrated on people who had not asked, did not deserve it, and did not recognise Him.
The conversation
The child: “Daddy God, what does real love actually look like?”
God: “The world made it complicated. Jesus defined it in one sentence.”
The child: “What did He say?”
God: “'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.'”
God: “Then He did it. Not for people who loved Him back. For people who didn't know Him.”
The child: “But I can't die on a cross.”
God: “Laying down your life usually means putting someone before your own comfort.”
God: “'Love suffereth long, and is kind.' Notice what's missing? Butterflies.”
The child: “How do I know if someone loves me?”
God: “Do they lay anything down for you? Look for the cost, not the sentiment.”
The child: “You love me like that? Even now?”
God: “'While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.' Not after you cleaned up.”
The child: “Then I want to love the way You do.”
God: “Let Me fill you first.”
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13, KJV
