I can't carry this any more. I've said it out loud now.

Admitting you cannot carry it feels like the moment you fail. Moses said almost exactly that and was not rebuked for it — the weight was lifted off him and spread across seventy others. The load did not shrink. It stopped being one person's. Nothing changed until he said it.

The conversation

The child: “Daddy God, I can't carry this any more. I've said it out loud now.”

God: “So did Moses. 'I am not able to bear all this people alone.'”

The child: “He said that to You?”

God: “Almost word for word. And I didn't rebuke him for it.”

God: “He'd carried a whole nation's complaints as if they were his fault.”

The child: “What did You do?”

God: “I took the weight off him and put it on seventy others.”

God: “The load didn't shrink. It stopped being one person's.”

The child: “I thought admitting it was the failure.”

God: “It was the turning point. Nothing changed until he said it.”

The child: “So I've already done the hard part?”

God: “You have. Saying it out loud is where the help starts.”

The child: “Then I'm not carrying it alone.”

God: “You never were.”

"I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me." Numbers 11:14, KJV
