I feel like You're asking me to do something I'm not built for. I'm not smart enough. I'm not brave enough. Who am I?
Feeling unqualified reads like proof you were not the one meant for this. Moses asked exactly that and got no reassurance about himself at all — only a promise about who would be going with him. The question was never really about you.
The conversation
The child: “Daddy God, I feel like You're asking me to do something I'm not built for. I'm not smart enough. I'm not brave enough. Who am I?”
God: “Moses said those exact words. Standing in front of a bush that was on fire but wouldn't burn, hearing My voice for the first time, and his response was: 'Who am I?'”
The child: “What did he say exactly?”
God: “'Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?' He wasn't being humble. He was terrified. He was a shepherd with a stutter asking God why He picked the wrong person.”
God: “And here's what I told him. I didn't say 'You're braver than you think.' I didn't give him a pep talk. I said: 'Certainly I will be with thee.' That's it. Not 'you can do it.' But 'I will be with you.'”
The child: “He didn't answer the 'who am I' question?”
God: “Because the answer to 'who am I' doesn't matter when you know who's with you. Moses was nobody. A fugitive. A shepherd. But 'certainly I will be with thee' turns nobody into enough.”
God: “I never call qualified people. I qualify called people. Moses couldn't speak well. David was a teenager. Gideon was hiding in a winepress. I chose all of them. Not despite their weakness. Through it.”
The child: “So my feeling of 'I can't do this' isn't a sign I'm the wrong person?”
God: “It's actually a sign you might be exactly the right person. The ones who think they've got it handled — they don't need Me. The ones who say 'who am I?' — they leave room for Me to show up.”
The child: “So my inadequacy is actually... the point?”
God: “It's the doorway. When you come to the end of yourself, you find the beginning of Me. 'Certainly I will be with thee' means your ability isn't the variable. My presence is.”
The child: “Then I'll go. Not because I'm enough. But because You are.”
God: “And I will certainly be with you. Just like I was with Moses. Every step.”
"And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain." Exodus 3:12, KJV
